Major Grapes Found in Colorado Wine Country
August 25, 2020Ah, Napa Valley. Known for its many rolling vineyards throughout the wine valley of California. There are six main grapes that grow throughout: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes are the most abundantly grown, however the true grape of Napa is the Cabernet Sauvignon. These grapes are considered 40% of total production and 55% of total crops. Chardonnay is found predominately in the Los Carneros AVA along with Pinot Noir grapes. Merlot is a newly added addition that has been planted in Napa since the 1970’s. Sauvignon Blanc is the second largest white wine grape grown. Zinfandel grapes are sweet and jammy which produces a bold glass of red wine and are found in the warmer areas of the valley. Napa offers a taste of wine for anyone’s interests throughout its infamous and scenic valley.
